Activities for children in Dubai

Are you travelling to Dubai with children? Dubai is a great destination for a family holiday. From the range of theme parks, to beaches to fun desert adventures, there is plenty to make Dubai the best holiday ever. What’s even better is that there are heaps of activities that the whole family can enjoy together. Many of these activities are not only fun for children but some of them also include an educational aspect. We consulted our expert on children’s activities: our 5 year old and 3 year old to ask them the places they enjoy best!

1. Aquaventure Waterpark

Get ready for a day of exhilarating outdoor adventure at this huge waterpark bursting with fun for kids at the iconic Atlantis, The Palm. From water slides to river rides, shark safaris and more, it’s no surprise that this waterpark has won the Time Out Kids Award as the Hotel Winner of Best Waterpark multiple times. Aquaventure accommodates kids of all different ages including the big kids, also known as adults!

Splashers is an area in the waterpark specially designed for the little ones under 1.2 metres. Here they can enjoy tipping buckets, climbing frames and kids-friendly waterslides. A day pass at Aquaventure also includes free access to Nasimi beach so you can spend the morning tubing down slides and the afternoon relaxing and making sand castles on the beach. The waterpark is open daily from 10:00am to sunset and has different rates for children and adults. You can pre-purchase your tickets or buy at the entrance at the general admission desk. During busy season, we would recommend pre-purchase to avoid standing in long queues.

Perfect for: a day out in the sun for the young (and old) fun seekers and water babies.

2. Platinum Heritage Desert Safari

A must-do activity during your holiday in Dubai is a trip to the desert. You are in the Middle East after all, and the beauty of the desert is one of Dubai’s major attractions. A desert safari is likely something very different to anything your children have ever experienced and will definitely stand out in their memory banks when they remember their childhood travel to Dubai.  There are many companies to choose from but we strongly recommend Platinum Heritage, as it is the only quality and authentic desert safari company in Dubai and offers a range of desert safaris. Although all the desert safaris are guaranteed to be enjoyed by children, we recommend the  Bedouin Breakfast and Love Lakes Desert Safari tour. This morning tour is great fun and educational for children and parents.

It starts with riding a camel! A true Arabian experience that is sure to delight the children.  The camel ride is to a reconstructed Bedouin village where the children will get to learn about life in the desert, interact with farm animals like goats and even get to meet a traditional Arabian saluki dog. Enjoy a traditional Emirati breakfast with savoury and sweet options the whole family will enjoy. The spectacular falcon show and interactive cultural dances will keep even the most distracted children engaged.  The best part is saved for last, an adventurous but gentle wildlife drive in vintage Land Rovers through the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. The professional guide shares stories and helps you spot native wildlife like Arabian Oryx and gazelles while you enjoy the open-air view from the back of the Land Rover. This is a culturally immersive morning which gets the balance between fun and learning something new just right! It is a great option for children over the age of 5, however car seats can be arranged for younger children.

Perfect for: a fun cultural activity to authentically experience the Dubai desert for the whole family.

3. Riverland

A gateway to Dubai Parks & Resorts, this fun, themed dining and shopping area is accessible to all with no entry fee. The themed area is made up of four vibrant zones which resemble a glimpse into different eras. With street theatre and entertainment, it is a far more exciting place to take children for a meal and a walk than an ordinary mall. The French Village zone will make you feel like a time traveller as you explore the cobbled streets of a 1600’s medieval town. The Boardwalk is the best area for children; it resembles a bustling urban street in America with heaps of exciting entertainment from jugglers to live music.

As you enter the India Gate zone, you will wonder where you are as you become mesmerized with musicians and acrobats transporting you to a different world. The Peninsula zone is in the heart of this fascinating area and connects all the districts via bridges. It is surrounded by the river and is the large outdoor venue where festivals and concerts are hosted. This is the zone where the parents will find the licensed restaurants and bars. Riverland Dubai boasts a broad mix of great dining venues as well as more casual dining options like quick service eateries which makes it the ideal spot for lunch or dinner with something for the whole family to enjoy.

Perfect for: an entertaining family outing for lunch or dinner.

4. Kite Beach

If you are coming to Dubai, we are guessing a beach visit is on your to-do list. The ultimate beach location in Dubai, Kite Beach is a public beach that offers a long stretch of white sandy beaches with plenty of dining options and activities to keep the family busy. Located just off Jumeirah’s main street, relaxing on this beautiful beach offers stunning views of the famous Burj Al Arab and the blue waters of the Arabian Gulf. This is a great area for swimming in the sea with children as there aren’t many waves, the currents aren’t strong and there is always a lifeguard present.

The range of food vans playing vibrant music and a variety of restaurants offer plenty of choices for your beach day snacks and makes an entertaining atmosphere. Along with the beach loungers, beach towels, and umbrellas available for rent, there are many attractions for children. There is a playground along with trampolines and bumper cars! For the bigger children, you can also rent kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and surfboards if relaxing on the beach is too sedentary for them.

If you are looking to visit a beach not attached to a hotel this is a great option for a day of family fun in the sun!

Perfect for: a day out at a free beach with plenty of activities to keep the children entertained.
